What does vacuum-roller massage do, and how strong is the cellulite evidence?

What is the general mechanism?
In vacuum massage, an applicator mechanically lifts the skin and massages it. The AAD discusses endermologie as an example, while noting inconsistent cellulite research. Mechanical action does not automatically mean destruction of fat cells or permanent disappearance of cellulite.

What does a small study show?
A study of 33 women reported circumference changes, but cellulite appearance improved in only five participants. The absence of a control group and small sample limit causal conclusions. Circumference reduction and a change in cellulite grade are not the same outcome.

Why does massage also need assessment?
NCCIH notes that serious adverse effects of massage are uncommon but have been reported, particularly with vigorous treatment or vulnerable patients. This is general information, not a vacuum-roller complication rate. Medical history and the exact device’s restrictions should not be skipped.

What does “drainage” mean in advertising?
Ask exactly what the term means and how results are measured. “Detox,” a feeling of lightness, circumference and visual cellulite assessment are not equivalent. If treatment of a disease is also claimed, that needs separate substantiation. A description should not be so vague that you cannot tell which outcome to expect.
How should we assess a combined handpiece?
Rollers may be offered with other functions. Ask which component is intended to do what, and which system was studied. Combined-device data cannot isolate massage’s contribution. Clarify whether maintenance of results and follow-up were described. A photograph after the first visit cannot answer all these questions.
